Green Living - Travel
Green Living doesn’t stop when you leave home. The same principles can be applied when you travel no matter where you go- from Hawaii to Australia. Here are some ideas to help get you started on your way:
- Call ahead and plan to stay in hotels that incorporate recycling or minimal laundry service. Even if they don't have these services, it helps for the hotel to hear from the public. Don't use as much laundry to cut down on bleach usage.
- If a hotel you are staying in doesn't have vegetarian fare, request it and tell them you will stay somewhere else that offers it. Even if they don't have it, or plan to, it plants a seed in at least the person you are speaking with.
- If the hotel you are staying in has comment cards, mention recycling and vegetarian fare if it is not already offered.
- Call ahead to places where you are thinking about staying since some places feature live animals as fixtures or as entertainment. You can let them know you will be staying elsewhere as a result.
- Bring your recyclable products home with you. The earth doesn't get a vacation.
- When speaking with the airlines or riding on the plane, inquire about recycling services. Request that they recycle if they are not doing it already.
- If possible, leave extra time to sit down and eat in a restaurant rather than getting carry-out. Enjoy the experience and quality time with your friends and family.
- Assume that vegan fare will not be readily available and bring plenty of bars, protein substitutes, soymilk and other food items to enhance salads, etc… For a great tasting and satisfying meat alternative, try Primal Strips. hey store well and are easy to carry. Please visit www.primalspiritfoods.com if you cannot find them in your favorite health food store.
Don’t forget to enjoy your vacation and to take a break from your busy life. These suggestions are just the beginning and can be fine-tuned with future vacations. Please share your earth-friendly ideas and experiences with us at:
